Lewisham Food Bank

Our parish here in Lee have been supporting the work of the Lewisham Food Bank for many years, initially with collection boxes at the back of the church. However, with churches closed during the pandemic the need for donations did not diminish - and indeed became more urgent. It was against that background that our Justice and Peace Group decided a new collection plan was needed - and so Fill Our Boots was instigated. The fruits of these collections have recently been officially recognised by the Food Bank with this certificate.

This is the announcement in our Parish News in October 2020 which relaunced our campaign.

"Our parish has always been a great supporter of the Lewisham Foodbank and they need our support more than ever!!  The parish has always been able to collect items for the food bank at the back of the church but with the current restrictions but that is not possible.  However, the ongoing impact of the Corona virus means families and individuals continue to depend on the food bank for day to day essentials.

So, please come along to the church car park on Saturday 10th October, anytime between 11am and 12 Noon. We would ask you to bring any donations in carrier bags which you will be able to place into our open car boots.  Just add a few extra items to your shopping list this coming week and please do help us to Fill Our Boots and keep vital supplies going for the Foodbank!!"

This initiative was also advertised with a large banner outside the church to enable non-parishioners to donate to the monthly collection.

The success of this collection method has continued to this day, long after the Covid restrictions are just a distant memory. Well done to all who have contributed at any time.
